ZZzzzzzzzzz....

I'm incredibly sleepy. I think lack of sleep is slowly (ok, not so slowly) catching up to me. My youngest, Bear, who just turned 2, has bronchitis and is still coughing fairly irregularly at night, and my better half has a nice cough too. With my light sleeping habits it's making for very restless nights indeed.

On the writing front, I'm currently writing certain scenes introducing all the main characters from my outline, changing a few names and trying to not be heavy handed with dialog. I'm succeeding at the name changes at least.

I'm finding myself wanting to write more and more, rather than do other things (playing World of Warcraft, watching TV, reading blogs etc.) and writing is becoming more routine. The music helps keep me from getting distracted, which is good, and I'm working mostly on my netbook because my desktop PC has too many distractions, and let's face it, while an iPad may be great for consuming media and documents, it sure as hell isn't even decent for creating content.

In other news, I've introduced a good friend at work to Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog and I feel quite good for doing so :) It's good stuff if you haven't seen it.

I'll try to catch everyone up on some recent work happenings (England in March!) in a future entry.

Anyway, to bed with me.

G'night

A Snail's Pace

That's what this feels like sometimes, working at a snail's pace. At least I'm working on it. I'm still maintaining the pace of around 750 words a day in the limited time I have free. It'll have to do for now, I know I'll have points where I get nothing done, and points where I'll crank out much more, so I'm not going to let it get to me. Besides, that's 273,750 words a year, it's close to my goal, and I'll get more productive the more routine and comfortable this becomes.

I've started using GrooveShark on the Classical or Trance channels to help me work. I find music without lyrics does a fantastic job of creating my own private space in which to work, something precious to me.

I spent a good portion of tonight rewriting and expanding on the little I'd written for my outline of how two of the main characters in BookB meet. I'm still not satisfied, but the gist of it is there, it just needs some fine tuning and cleaning up I think. Who knows, maybe by the time I'm done it'll be rewritten a few more times.

Oh yeah! I'm supposed to blog!

So, it turns out i'm fairly rubbish at keeping my blog updated. Good thing I'm not having as much trouble keeping on track with writing. It can be quite hard to find time to write these days. I've gotten a promotion at work, and another one seems imminent, and I've been getting bigger and bigger projects to work on. I'm currently acting as a lead architect on something I can't talk about. Yet i still find time to write (just not so much for blogging).

I've passed over control of my World of Warcraft guild to one of my Officers, and a good friend. He'll handle things his way, and that's fine by me. I needed to remove the sense of responsibility i felt for other people's enjoyment of the game. That's opened up a fair bit of writing time lately. I'm more in the "meat" of writing now. The outline is long complete (though it does get updated and altered sometimes) and I'm steadily working on and improving my style (i hope). Now I'm concentrating on telling the actual story, you know, making it exciting to read and trying to get it to flow from outline plot point to outline plot point without going off on dreadfully long tangents.

I don't get as much written on a daily basis as I like, and I don't necessarily get any work done on a daily basis, but if you spread it out, i'm averaging about 750 words a day. Not a bad pace, though I do hope it improves as I get more comfortable with the actual work of writing.

Anyway, It's past midnight and I'm on my 4th day with little sleep and a wee one who's just now getting over a bad chest cold (just in time for her 2nd birhday party tomorrow). So off to bed with me.
